Man Drove Drunk With Two Kids In Car On Long Island Roadway, Police Say

A man is facing charges after police say he drove while intoxicated with two kids in the car on a Long Island roadway.

A 911 caller reported a man driving a 2010 Hyundai Sonata recklessly in Dix Hills when a patrol officer initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Deer Park Road and Alyssum Avenue at approximately 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 16, Suffolk County Police said.

After failing a standardized field sobriety check, officers arrested the driver, Jack Miller, age 31,  of West Deptford, New Jersey. Miller had his 2-year-old and 5-year-old daughters in the vehicle, according to police.

Miller was charged with:

  • Two counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger 15 years old or younger (Leandra’s Law),
  • Two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. 

The children were released to their grandmother, police said.

Miller was held overnight at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday, July 17.
